The Stills:
Last night the Montreal's rock revival "the Stills" hit Toronto's harbourfront center for a free show. They were the warm up band for Canadian born/Franch adopted Hawksley Workman. Perfectly timing our entrance, the Stills took stage around 8:00pm. Being one of my favorite disc of last year, I was ready to see an exceptional performance. Poopy. The band was doing all the right things, but bi-law bitches restricted the sound levels. Seriously, why the hell would the city be so accommodating to the 4 people who live on Toronto Island. So, if I were there to hear two guys sing faintly and a muffled drummer, then I was in heaven... I unfortunately was not. I will have to see the Stills again, this just wasn't a fair representation.

Hawksley Workman:
Hawksley Workman hit the stage at 9:30pm, and the rain hit at about 9:31. I had a ticket to the long sold set of CSS at Lee's Palace. So I left the rain and silent rock and headed west... and north.

Goofy Goobers?
When I arrived at the show, the room was 2/3 full and the opener was just finished. I went and claimed a few 50's, cause I was ready to shake my ass off. The second opener took stage with two mic's and a rhythm station I could not recognize. I never got his name, but thats OK, I'm sure this was a one night stand. His rhymes were jumbled and unrecognizable, his station work was sloppy, and his set was too long. Oh and he was wearing this party hat that was quite the opposite of his set. Please no more false advertising.

CSS:
Now remember I was here to shake my ass. Well, Brazil's CSS filled that prescription and gave a few more refills. CSS is one of the tightest dance rock troops I ever had the privilege of see live. But this pop can is shook vigiously by front women "LoveFoxxx". This girl is hot, even in a uni-tard. The first song to get me going was "alcohol", I love this fun sing song that combine synthetic accordion or maybe harmonica with a casual twangy bass line. After this song I was off the hook. I only saw the band a few times, for the energy deemed my attention be focusing on movin'. "Alala" made me wet both externally and internally. I wish Lee's stocked towels, (although it was only 1/1000 as hot as "!!!")! After i had a few little shove off matches with fellow patrons, Seriously if there's no more room on the dance floor, your F**ked, so F**k off. But even that could even put the slightest of dents on the set. They finish with "Let's make love (and listen to Death From Above)". I wanted this song to be good... I had goosebumps, from head to toe, goosebumps. Hats off to... NO wait, Clothes off to CSS. Thanks for the great show.
Oh ya PG, they threw cups... and those little flat breads you put hummus and such on. Excellent parting gifts!
