Rock Plaza Central were as good as ever, so we'll avoid redundancy here and focus on openers Jetplanes of Abraham.
Best band name in recent memory?
You maybe heard their 2006 debut, and weren't especially impressed (according to the blogosphere, this tends to be the case), but you'll be singing a different tune after seeing the Ottawa six-piece on stage. They've claimed they're aiming to sound like a cross between Funeral days Arcade Fire and self-titled Broken Social Scene, and while they never quite equal either in stature, it's not difficult to see the influence left by both.
Things were fast-paced and at times explosive. Shared vocal duties added variety to what might otherwise turn into homogeneous pop/rock. It was all very Ghost is Dancing-like.
To be honest, I don't believe a relatively small band can do wrong when they decide to include two violins (especially when they're wielded by two attractive ladies).
