Joel Plaskett Emergency
Horseshoe Tavern
December 12, 2007

Most Canadians would hesitate before naming Joel Plaskett a Rock Icon, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be labelled one. Who else but a living legend could pull off a six-night string of sold-out concerts to celebrate the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern's 60th anniversary - an honour normally reserved for The Rheostatics (R.I.P.)?

As if it wasn't hard enough to pull off six consecutive gigs, Plaskett and his Emergency also decided they'd spend each night focusing on one of the group's (or Joel's) albums - from Down At The Khyber, through to Ashtray Rock.

The 12th was Truthfully, Truthfully night and Plaskett and crew didn't disappoint. They hit up nearly every song on the disc and added a few Ashtray and Make A Little Noise favourites to boot. This band has never been in finer form. It's refreshing to see performers who try to enjoy every show as if it's their last.

He'll be a household name one day, but for now, it's fun to be in on the Plaskett secret.
