CMW 2008: White Cowbell Oklahoma
Horseshoe Tavern
March 8, 2008

CMW 2007 saw White Cowbell Oklahoma score a perfect 100 on Chart's Rock & Roll Report Cards and they were certainly deserving of it.

This year, Toronto's favourite cowboys were as depraved as ever, but it seemed like they turned down the mayhem dial a couple of notches. It may have been a result of the time constraints placed upon them, but there was no nudity, very few flying sparks and no associates in ridiculous costumes. Compared to other bands, they were exemplary. Compared to themselves, they were mediocre.

Chainsaw Charlie was up to his usual mischief. This year's sacrifices to his Husqvarna: A giant, stuffed Tweety Bird and the requisite toiltet paper rolls on a stick.

There were a lot of yelled conversations in the Shoe after Cowbell left the stage; not because people were angry at one another, but because everyone's hearing was permanently damaged. Five guitars and screamed lyrics hitting your head at 150 decibels tend to have that effect. It should be noted that no one really cared.

This is a band that everyone needs to see at least once.
