The jury's still out on exactly how insane Luca Maoloni (The Old Soul) is, but as long as he keeps making music like his latest disc, Gold, he'll be able to wear the Genius hat instead of the Madman.
When your band expands to twenty people and includes bartenders from local pubs, it may be a sign that things have gone too far, but no one in the audience or on the stage seemed to mind. (The band members may not have been as happy when they received their cut of the gig money). Equally overboard, was Maoloni's choice of set list for the night. After opening with the classic "River of Daughters," he announced the Old Soul troupe was going to play Gold from start to finish. Oddly enough, the whole thing went off without a hitch and even included a guest singing spot from Parkdale's own Andre Ethier.
An encore wasn't really necessary after this, but to Maoloni's credit, he stuck around for another ten minutes and hit fan favourite "Vege-tables" (a remake of the Brian Wilson song that Maoloni recorded because he felt Wilson "didn't get it right").
Don't ever let anyone tell you that five trumpets is too many for your band.
